Abby and I are officially back in the states and have moved into our own apartment after living with my parents for the past 3 months. That was ok, and my parents were fantastic, but WOW - it's hard after moving out when I was 18!
So Abby has started school in the States and is going to a Christian-based preschool. SHE LOVES IT! Thank the LORD! She is excited to go to school every day and to see her friends. Our apartment is small, but it's perfect for the two of us right now and when Chuck is home to visit - hopefully sooner than later.
We had gotten rid of much of our furniture when we moved, so I've been busy trying to refurnish an apartment - and later our home in Raleigh when we are able to move back. We've decided to keep Abby in school so we're planning on moving back to Raleigh in June (after she finishes her first year of pre-school). This way we have the summer to rennovate and move back into our home and get things situated. We're hoping that Chuck will find something in the US by then, but if not, we're ok with that as well.
Chuck was able to renegotiate his contract so he should be "home" with us every couple months for 2-4 weeks at a time. He will be home for Christmas and New Year's so I'm super excited to have our holidays on American Soil again!! Although traveling was wonderful and we enjoyed every minute, there's just no place like home for the holidays (I know I sound like a Hallmark card, but well - that's how I feel now-a-days!)
We did have a VERY busy summer. Abby and I went to 3 concerts, Scotty McCreery (her favorite country singer), Blake Shelton and Fresh Beat Band. We took a weekend to Darien Lake (a local theme park) where she had a blast and we adjusted to being in the States again.
I'm still taking online courses for my masters and have started volunteering at an ESL class weekly for adults, which is great and keeps me in the teaching zone.
We're still traveling as a family - we're on another vacation right now to visit daddy! It's been 4 months so it's good to get out and see eachother for a bit. This next stint will only be 6 weeks and he'll be visiting us, so it's going to get more manageable from here on out :)
I plan on keeping the blog going and keeping up-to-date on our travels and information for families who are looking to move to Saudi. All the families have the choice of moving as a family or the husband/father going on single status. We're on the side of single, but we've been there, so I'm hoping to keep the information going for anyone who's looking to make the decision.
Happy fall to everyone and will update even more soon as our adventure continues!
In May 2012 my husband came home with a proposal. Move to Yanbu, Saudi Arabia for a position. At first I was stunned, but having lived and worked as an ex-pat myself before meeting my husband, I though that it may be worth looking into.
I quite my job, am now a stay-at-home mom and we live in Yanbu Industrial City in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The process has been interesting and we are learning more and more everyday. But I have a feeling this is only the beginning of our adventure!
