At this particular Easter party, since it was at the compound, they showed a video on the true meaning of Easter. Having a very curious 3 year old, we spent the next week attempting to explain the whole thing to her. She became somewhat obsessed with the idea of Jesus and well, it was interesting in a Muslim country. At one point we were at the grocery store when she asked the bagger "Did you know Jesus loves you?" The highlight however was when she was in trouble and I put her in time out. I was told, "Mom, you don't get to punish me. Jesus took my punishment." Smart girl, I know!
But the egg hunt was fun, and the kids were fantastic. They searched and searched and went home with tons of treats and smiles.
What was missing though? Well, of course we didn't have ham for dinner, rather we were so tired from the events that we ordered Chinese. Alot of our decorations and plastic eggs we brought back from the states. We also brought a lot of the candy that we couldn't find here, ie Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs and Cadbury Easter Eggs. You can find jelly beans here and we did find some chocolate eggs, chicks and even a chocolate rabbit. We do have a bunny, long story, but suffice it to say, you inherit all sorts of things as an expats from those before you. We, inherited a rabbit, who Abby so appropriately named Easter.
The secret to being an expat is to always keep an open mind and make the best of the situation. This may never be "home" but you can make it yours. You learn to laugh alot and be creative. Most of all, become a kid again and enjoy every crazy moment!
